"Centrally located and an excellent value for the money, this vintage gem of a hotel is clean, well maintained and decorated in a gently worn Spanish colonial style: courtyard with fountain, mahogany rocking chairs and a small but pleasant swimming pool surrounded by palm trees. The staff is unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Many rooms have refrigerators."

"The free wifi is very slow. Not every room has a window that can be opened. Some elements of the guest rooms and public areas need to be refreshed, ,but if the hotel were completely redecorated, it would lose all its charm. To their credit, the front desk staff responds very quickly to fix any maintenance problems with the wifi, television reception or air conditioning."

Swimming pool in the building. Access to restaurant from the hotel lobby. Live music in the restaurant (but not loud, does not disturb guests)."

"We stayed at Casa del Balam for two weeks. The first week we stayed in the master suite which had a great patio overlooking the pool. We moved to a king suite for the second week. The hotel is close to town center, restaurants and shopping. The staff were all friendly and helpful."

"There were some plumbing issues with the bathroom sink in the master suite during our first week. During the second week we had issues with the toilet in the king suite. Even though the issue was taken care of in a timely manner, the problem kept recurring. This is a great property but a good thorough cleaning and a paint job would do wonders for its appearance."

"Lovely old hotel, the staff is really friendly and the building is very charming. Location can't be better. The only downside is the disuse of the hotel. With a little or revamp the hotel would be back to 4-5 stars"
